Public petition to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), on remuneration and benefits for State officers in the Senate and National Assembly
We, the undersigned citizens of the Republic of Kenya and residents of various constituencies;
DRAW the attention of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to the following:
THAT, the current remuneration structure for Members of the National Assembly and Senators places an unsustainable financial burden on Kenyan taxpayers through heavily layered allowances and hidden benefits.
THAT, while the base compensation is reasonable, the addition of mileage allowances, car maintenance allowances, vehicle purchase grants, subsidized loans, sitting allowances, airtime, and entertainment allowances creates an opaque and fiscally irresponsible spending culture.
THAT, the current executive health insurance benefits allocated to lawmakers heavily drain public funds while the ordinary citizen relies on an overburdened and underfunded healthcare system.
THAT, public office is an avenue of service, and leadership must reflect the economic realities and fiscal constraints currently facing the citizens of Kenya.
THEREFORE, your humble Petitioners PRAY that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission:
Immediately adopts a simplified, transparent, and fiscally sustainable remuneration package for Members of the National Assembly and Senators.
Retains the basic salary, house allowance, and market adjustment factor.
Abolishes the mileage claim, car maintenance allowance, motor vehicle reimbursement, mortgage benefit, committee sitting allowance, special parliamentary duty allowance and airtime.
Reduces the parliamentary medical cover to standard, low-tier limits structured precisely as follows:
Inpatient Cover: KSh 500,000
Outpatient Cover: KSh 50,000
Maternity Cover: KSh 75,000
Dental Cover: KSh 10,000
Optical Cover: KSh 10,000
